Schenck Southwest, Santa Fe
The artist, Bill Schenck, has been known internationally for the past 33 years as one of the originators of the contemporary "Pop" western movement. Schenck started painting western subject matter while living in New York during the early 1970's. His original inspirations came from black and white movie stills taken for the Hollywood westerns and the Italian "Spaghetti" westerns. During the summers spent in Wyoming, he gathered more material for paintings. Photographs documenting rodeos, cattle drives and the western lifestyle became integrated with the black and white movie stills.
